Whether it is at home or place of work, electric vehicle car chargers are becoming more of an essential item of your infrastructure.
All electric and plug-in hybrids are supplied with a charging unit that can be plugged into a standard 13amp socket, which is normally part of the main ring main. As most of the leads supplied with your vehicle are only 2 meters some of you will need to trail an extension lead through an open window or out of a garage, in order to charge your vehicle. This can result in over-heated plugs and sockets and potentially hazardous outcomes.
When having an electric vehicle charging point installed, you can have the unit near where the vehicle is parked, and not have a trailing extension lead lying about. This will make the area safer to charge your vehicle, reducing potential trip hazards and dangerous issues caused by having plugs lying around in wet or inclement weather.
With having an electric vehicle charging point installed, not only are you making it safer to charge, but you will get a much faster charge than the one supplied with your vehicle. The normal domestic electric charge point is approximately 7kw which means you will charge your vehicle at a rate of approximately 15 miles range per hour (RPH). This typically about 4X faster (or more) charging capability than the charger supplied with your vehicle.
If your domestic dwelling or place of work has a 3-phase electric supply, you may be able to have installed an 11 or 22kw charger unit. This is subject to available power. This increases the charging capability to a minimum of 30 miles RPH.
Okay then, you have decided to buy and have installed a charger. Well you have to make a decision on which one is going to be right for you or your organisation. Wall Mounted, Pole Mounted, Size etc, etc. The power you have available will dictate what size you can have. There are also OLEV grants available for the domestic and commercial market. EV Car Charging can guide you through the whole process.
